the control center you talk about has nothing to do with ubuntu.
It's simply the new control center from gnome 2.18, made originaly but the Novel's team for their SUSE distribution. Gnome 2.18 has it by default now.
So tkx SuSe

6.06 LTS Dapper and 6.10 Edgy Eft were good for me. Without a doubt, I'm done with MS Windows and everything Vista. This is not a MS bash-post, I just refuse to replace the OS and Applications that work fine for me, not to mention spending more upgrading hardware.

Ubuntu's oversimplification, it's welcomed here, I have too many other things going on in my life rather than dealing with why it works or more importantly, doesn't work.

I've distributed to others the Ubuntu iso cdroms, FC and other Linux distro users have "fallen in love" with Ubuntu for these oversimplifications. There's a reason for Ubuntu's popularity as the # 1 distro on distrowatch for pagehits.

I would like to see wireless improved for Ubuntu. What would be nice, load it on your laptop and then be able to slide any pcmcia cardbus into the slot and have instant recognition and application of drivers. As it stands now for some you need to get restricted modules and even there, no guarantees it works for very long.
