Choose your license and you end up living buy it. The gpl is not about threatening law suits to companies. Only people who violate the gpl should be nervous. Then again, under the gpl when you use it, you have to make your source code freely available as well, and especially if you forked someones code that was from a gpl licensed program.

If you have trouble with a license, pick a different one. Then again, the gpl is more than just about freedom, it's also about equality with the needing to make your source code freely available under the gpl.

OSS and FOSS are amazing things. They also definitely show off why proprietary designs aren't good. For me, microsoft chose not let my printer work in vista because no vista drivers were made for it, while linux does let me have my newly discontinued printer work just fine and have a say in the matter.

Sanjeev,

Sorry to hear you got dumped on. As I pointed out to Sam, we've all said things at one time, that we later wish that we hadn't.

Now, as to the beard, it's got to be waist length, if you are every going to be anything in FOSS .

Why don't you come visit Canada (and bring your guitar). There's a really neat music convention every spring near Toronto that you might enjoy, the website is:

http://www.filkontario.ca

I'll be attending.

Great blog post, thanks for sharing.

I found Orbited.settings.hostname could be 127.0.0.1 or localhost, so long as the ajax POST request goes to the same url. Or bypass the whole issue by using a relative url in the POST url parameter as per Afrobeard's js. (using FF).

I just spent a lot of time, and sanity, going through the various django comet blogs, articles, etc. For others on the same dark path, this clocks it.

Solution is:
self.send(channel, json.encode(data).encode("utf-8"))
It works ok.

At client use:
var message = eval('(' + payload + ')');
to translate str to json data.

I find that if don't encode using json, there is no err:
def send_data(self, channel, data):
    self.send(channel, data) #just send the data
The problem is not related with the xmlrpclib
