Intel bought havok?

The image “http://www.havok.com/templates/havok/images/havok_logo2.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.I read today that Intel bought havok, the company that is responsible for all the amazing realistic physics you see in games and some movies. I am actually wondering if they will build in support for Havok’s engine into hardware like aeiga’s physx chip.

Either way, havok will continue doing what it does best: exploding things and making lifeless bodies fly around realistically when the aforementioned explosions take place.

It’s annoying how bigger companies are eating up smaller companies with the entire intention of reaching their longterm goal.

For fu*k’s sake, google seems to have a little shopping cart buying companies left and right. Feedburner, youtube, and that free wiki platform that nobody’s getting an invite for. I really wish they’d make great products and give the independent startups incentive to enhance their products. I’ve been noticing more often than not, google’s more interested in the data than providing the service. In my opinion, they didn’t want feedburner to burn feeds, they wanted to index more and more data.

Please stop. kthxbye.

“Gamasutra has the recent announcement; Intel has purchased Havok. ‘As the firm noted, Havok 5 features enhancements to its core products, Havok Physics and Havok Animation, and introduces new features for Havok Behavior, a system for developing event-driven character behaviors in a game. Some of the games using Havok technology, particularly its Havok Physics solution, include BioShock, Stranglehold, Halo 2, Half Life 2, Oblivion, Crackdown, and MotorStorm - the company is also rapidly developing and marketing further tool products.’ No word on what (if anything) Intel plans to do with its new acquisition.”
